This is about your own content: listings, products and pages you write. The store's buttons and menus are already translated into its 23 languages. How automatic translation works is in Translate your own content.
Read the status line
Open Settings Auto translations. The line at the top says what happened on the last run.

Other reasons a text stays in English
It's off
Automatic translation is off on a new store. When it's off, customers see your English.
That kind of content isn't picked
Only the languages and kinds of content you pick are sent. Content from a plugin that is switched off isn't translated, and its texts show Its plugin is off.
Translated only when opened
With When a customer opens it, each text is translated the first time a customer views it in another language. Until then it isn't queued. To fill in the rest, use Translate everything now; before you confirm, it tells you how many texts it will queue and about how many calls to the translation service that takes.
The allowance ran out
When no characters are left, translation pauses and carries on by itself once there are characters again. With Everything, automatically, it pauses early when the allowance is nearly used up, while texts customers open are still translated. The page shows what's left; the Administrator can top up with WowCodes Store credit.
It's waiting for review
A translation you marked as needing review shows the English to customers until you approve it, under the Needs review tab.
It keeps failing
A text that failed shows Waiting · failed n of n tries, with its last problem and next try. Open it for the reason.
A translation shows old wording
When you change the English, the text shows English changed · translated again when next shown. A translation you edited by hand is kept as you wrote it; to have the machine take over again, use Go back to machine translation.
