Turn it on
- Open the setting
Go to Settings Maintenance.
- Take the store offline
Press Turn on maintenance and confirm. The banner turns to "Maintenance is on: the storefront is offline".
- Share the access token
Each time you turn maintenance on, a fresh Access token is made. Give it to anyone who needs to see the store but isn't signed in to the admin panel. They open the site and enter it on the maintenance page.
To reopen, press Bring site back online on the same page.
What changes while it's on
| Who or what | What happens |
|---|---|
| Customers | See the maintenance page. They can't bid, buy, open boxes or place orders, on the storefront or in the app. A page they left open from before can't send them either. |
| Staff signed in to the admin panel | See the real store, with a banner saying it's closed to customers. This works for every active staff account, whatever its role. Being remembered by the admin's sign-in cookie isn't enough: open the admin panel first. |
| Anyone with the access token | Sees the real store after entering the token. |
| The admin panel | Stays open as usual. |
| Payments already started | Still settle: gateway callbacks and return pages keep working. |
| The scheduled task | Keeps running. |
Because the scheduled task keeps going, auctions and draws still end at their set times while customers can't reach the store. Pick a quiet moment, or move end times before a long maintenance window.
Change the access token
The token stays the same until you make a new one. Press Generate new token under Access token and confirm. Anyone using the old token is locked out until you give them the new one.
Maintenance during a core update
A core update from Appearance Software update shows customers a short maintenance page by itself while files are replaced, and takes it down when it finishes. You don't need to turn maintenance on for it. If an update is cut off and the store stays on that page, the update's own recovery tools take it down; see If an update goes wrong.
