What happened
Earlier versions filled in sample email (SMTP) settings when a store was installed. They were only meant to get you started. Since 28 October 2026 they no longer send, so a store still using them sends no order updates, receipts, sign-up or password emails until it has its own.
- The next update removes the sample settings, but only if they were never changed. Settings you entered yourself are never touched.
- After that update your dashboard shows Email with Set up your own email (SMTP) until you do.
Set it up
- Get your details
From your web host's email accounts or from an email sending service: the SMTP host, port, username, password and the address emails come from.
- Enter them
Open Settings Email (SMTP) (also under Marketing Notifications), fill in each field and save. Use port
587for STARTTLS or465for SSL. Only an Administrator can change these settings. - Send a test
Press Send test email. It uses the saved settings and goes to your own admin email. "Test email sent to … Check the inbox (and spam folder)." means it works. If it fails, the page shows your mail server's reason; take that to your host or email provider.
- Send what was waiting
Open Marketing Notifications Send Log and retry anything on the Queue tab.
There is no shared email login to use. If someone offers you one in our name, it isn't us. Support never asks for your email password.
